Dig Site

Our dig site is the hub of our operation. Here you can explore a variety of mine dirt, meet for field trips, shop in our site store and hear talks on Maine mineralogy and mining history. All ages are welcome at the site.

Dig from a pile of straight run mine material relocated by dump truck directly from the world-famous Mt. Mica Mine in South Paris, Maine, or choose from pre-filled specialty buckets.

For site digs, you sift through the mine dirt at our undercover sifting stations which are outfitted with white tabletops and rinse water for quick and easy mineral identification. Our knowledgeable staff will guide you on rinsing and sifting methods and are always available to identify what you have found.

Individuals, families and groups are welcome. We require reservations for school or camp groups.

We supply all the tools you need, but you are always welcome to bring your own!

Remember to bring bug spray, sunscreen, hat, rain gear. We sell ice-cold beverages and snacks at the site. (Currently, we aren't selling these due to COVID)

Bring your own buckets to take your material home, or we sell buckets for $4
